The Encounter Conference: Three Dimensional Signage
As a volunteer for International Arts Movements, an art catalyst in the great city of New York, I was asked this past March to help create informational signs as well as an overall aesthetic to their annual conference on art and faith, Encounter 2011. As any NPO can understand, budgets are often exhausted before any significant amount can go towards design and hospitality of a space. So, our challenge rested in the limited budget; our solution being cheap materials, simple design and repetition. We decided to combine our practical need for signs that pointed to the check in, book store, main entrance, etc. with our goal of communicating a unified feeling of space. Also, since our space was fairly large, we utilized larger sized boxes to fill space more easily and simply make a warmer, smaller seeming setting. Our materials included various sized boxes, paint, burlap and tap lights.
